How to find travel inspiration for Your Next Trip

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be well aware of the COVID-19 virus that’s swept across the globe. Nations are at extreme risk of illness and death, businesses are crashing, and people are terrified. Many of us with big trips planned have sadly had to wave goodbye to our upcoming adventures, confined within the home to quarantine or self-isolate to wait out the virus. While cancelling travel plans is gutting, this period of isolation can be an opportunity to plan the details of your next big trip. Need some inspiration? Take a look at this guide.

Browse Instagram Hashtags

Given the circumstances, you may be too exhausted and overwhelmed to want to do much. That’s okay – now’s a good time to breathe, relax, and take it easy. For travel inspiration, browse through hashtags on Instagram to inspire a trip in the future.

Whether you know where you want to head to once the dust has settled or not, Instagram provides more photos of exotic and unique spots across the globe than you could shake a stick at. If you already have a spot in mind, use the search tool to discover relevant hashtags for that specific destination, and have a peek at all there is to offer. You’ll soon find quality recommendations for restaurants, hotels, activities, and more with a simple click of a button.

If you’re just window shopping for now, why not look at more general travel hashtags, such as #travelgram or #wanderlust? Or, have a gander at our own Instagram feed for snaps of some of our much-loved destinations around the world

As you scroll through beautiful imagery of different locations, you’ll be reminded just how impressive the world is.

Create Pinterest Boards

If you’re feeling unmotivated, anxious, or overwhelmed with everything that’s happening in the world right now, getting creative and planning your dream travel boards for future trips can help.

Pinterest is a great platform to help you imagine a brighter, happier future where you’re gallivanting around the planet on the trip of your dreams. While Pinterest is a useful resource for inspiration of any kind, it works especially well for travel as it’s chock-a-block full of carefully curated boards of dreamy destinations.

Whether you’re looking for photos or information on a specific spot, or you’re seeking travel inspiration in general, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Learn a Language

If you’re feeling bored during self-isolation or quarantine, learning a new language is a fabulous way to get your brain ticking. If you have a good idea of where you’d like your next big trip to be, by learning the language used in that country you’ll amp up the excitement. Once you have the chance to put your new-found skills to use it will be even more satisfying.

Download apps like Duolingo, buy audiobooks or watch videos of native speakers to help you brush up on your language skills. There are plenty of resources to help you learn a new language from the comfort of your bed – you don’t even need to step out of your pyjamas.

Watch Foreign or Travel-Related Films

Like learning a new language, watching foreign and travel-related films during self-isolation can inspire wanderlust and can help you look forward to travelling again in the future. Netflix and other streaming services are jam-packed with plenty of fantastic foreign and travel-related films, and you’re sure to find an enticing movie to keep you occupied.

Travel through Italy, India, and Indonesia with Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat Pray Love, or sit back with a glass of red and soak up the adorable chronicles of Amélie

Chat with Your Friends and Family

During self-isolation, it’s easy to become lonely and frustrated. That’s why keeping in touch with friends and family is so important during these trying times.

Pick up the phone for a chat and not only will you feel closer having a good old natter with your loved ones, but you can also ask them for stories and tips on their recent travels. With direct advice, speaking to others can be one of the best sources for trip inspiration.

If your friends have recently travelled to one of your must-visit destinations, get in contact with them and ask for their guidance. During these mundane days especially, most people will be more than happy to give you some recommendations or share their itinerary.

If your friend is living abroad, there are many apps out there that allow you to connect and speak together online. Try Skype or WhatsApp, for example

Read Travel Blogs, Books, and Magazines

In our usually hectic lives, it’s often difficult to find the time to read. During self-isolation, why not make use of the free hours to bury your head in a travel book or magazine for inspiration?

After all, before we were introduced to the world of internet, we used books, newspapers, and magazines for travel inspiration and they’re still packed full of fascinating stories and resources. Stretch your legs out on the sofa, get comfy, and flip through a good travel book to help you plan your next adventure.

If you prefer to stick to the internet, there are tons of blogs covering every travel niche imaginable. For luxury travel and adventures, we have plenty more content on our own blog to keep you entertained and inspired.
