From knowing when to arrive and what to wear to choosing the right tent and the right place to stay, here is how to experience Munich’s greatest celebration like you know your way around the Wiesn. And with this year’s ASMALLWORLD Oktoberfest calendar packed with events, there are plenty of opportunities for members to get closer to the action.
There is a particular moment each September when there’s no mistaking what is coming to Munich. Dirndls and lederhosen appear on the U-Bahn. Brass bands become part of the city’s soundtrack. Beer gardens fill earlier, conversations run later and, on the Theresienwiese, an entire temporary world of striped tents, glowing fairground rides and flower-draped balconies rises from what, for most of the year, is an open field.
Then, at noon on opening Saturday, the first keg is tapped inside Festhalle Schottenhamel. “O’zapft is!” rings out, the beer begins to flow and Oktoberfest is officially under way. For ASMALLWORLD Members, however, the celebrations have already begun, with events leading into opening weekend and continuing throughout the festival.
