Amsterdam’s Hottest Restaurant Openings

Amsterdam’s Hottest Restaurant Openings

In Amsterdam, summer is marked by the clinking of canal side aperitifs and vibrant helpings of fresh produce. Amongst long-established spots such as Hap Hmm and Bird Thais, there are plenty of new citywide restaurants to get your teeth into. Our editors have selected some of their favourites.

Little Bonfire

The clue is in the name – this small restaurant is as wholesome and homely as they come. Dressed as an upmarket living room, the restaurant is set within the beating heart of the city, serving warming European dishes such as seabass with clams, shrimp and leeks, and crispy aubergine and marinated artichoke with a romesco-pecorino salad.

Restaurant Boon & De Koot

Just up the road from Little Bonfire is Boon & De Koot, the new little brother of the Michelin-starred Zoldering. While the skill and quality are top-notch, Boon & Koot offers a more laidback environment than Zoldering for foodies to relax in, overlooking the Houthavens streets. European fusion dishes, such as sausage-celeriac salad and roasted spatchcock chicken, are served with delicious wines from the team’s local wine shop, Lof.

Leonardo’s Ravioli Bar

Following its recent opening in March, Leonardo’s has been serving plates filled with fresh pasta to a stream of food-fanatics. Founded by Chef Leonardo Pacenti, owner of the famous restaurant Toscanini, this restaurant is focused around his love of ravioli. Within the beautiful, checkered-red-and-white interiors, you’ll find a seasonal rotating menu of ravioli dishes made with fresh, local ingredients.

BAK

While not strictly a new opening, this innovative restaurant deserves a special mention. The business originated as a pop-up in 2013 before finding a permanent place within a reused warehouse in Amsterdam's former lumber port. Vegetarian fine dining is the focus here; however, there are also local meats and fish on offer. This year marks the expansion of its wine cellar, where you’ll find an array of delicious pairings.

If these don’t quite tantalise your tastebuds, we also recommend paying a visit to any of the following: SILK, Rear Admiral (Schout Bij Nacht), Counter, Bolenius Rembrandtpark, Rust, Juana The Lady, Maxwell, Copain, Williams Farmhouse, Restaurant Fyr, and the latest iteration of the renowned Nobu brand, Nobu Amsterdam.

While in the city, we recommend booking a stay at a hotel offering five-star service and facilities – including gastronomy. Kimpton de Witt is a beautifully designed property just a short walk from Centraal Station, with a lobby designed by Jacu Strauss, wellness-focused guest rooms featuring yoga mats, and a fantastic restaurant serving contemporary Californian cuisine. Alternatively, the 97 room De L’Europe is home to a two-Michelin-starred restaurant serving sustainable seafood and produce, accompanied by live jazz and views of the Amstel.
