Severin Maerki's current project is about creating awareness that there is no substitute Earth. The idea with "Only One World" - a wooden ball with almost 5,000 parts - is to integrate all people, all nature, all ecosystems and all different ways of thinking. We're all in the same boat. In the only existing boat. Regardless of social norms, origin and religion, all people on our planet are equally dependent on the state of our planet.
Severin also shows us a selection of his resting wooden sculptures based on humans. The curved lines and shapes of the sculptures convey the importance of togetherness and family. They remind us that we are all part of a greater whole, that as human beings we share a common purpose and are connected to one another. Just as the lines in Maerki's works merge into one another and form a unity, they also symbolize the interaction and community of humanity. Just as the works of art emphasise the individuality of each person, they also show the connectedness and dependence on one another.
With Alex & Alex, we have a young artist couple from Basel as guests who are thematically kindred spirits with Severin Maerki. Her series "Transformation" describes the change that humanity and the Earth are undergoing currently. On the one hand, they feel creative energies that move people to discover their true being and live it out. On the other hand, they are also confronted with destructive energies that make it absolutely clear that the exploitation of the planet cannot continue. Rapid technological development is taking on a speed that is considered neither healthy nor sustainable and Artificial intelligence is also becoming increasingly important and powerful.
