5 Best Things to do in Menorca

5 Best Things to do in Menorca

Less well-known than the Balearic islands of Mallorca and Ibiza, Menorca has blossomed into a laid-back, charming island in the Mediterranean. With hidden coves, rocky topographies and cerulean waters, Menorca’s sense of spaciousness and relaxed lifestyle is attracting visitors from across the globe. Our editors have gathered five hidden secrets to explore while you’re there.

Camí de Cavalls trail

Hike or mountain bike the Camí de Cavalls, a historic 185-kilometre path that follows the island’s coastline. While the full route is possible, many opt to explore a section, with the southern stretch being especially scenic. Menorca, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, reveals its rich natural beauty through this trail, which winds through valleys, coves and wetlands, connecting ancient lighthouses and beaches.

Organ recital at the Cathedral Santa Maria de Mao

Rising above the main square in Mahón, this Neoclassical cathedral is a must-visit. Inside, gold-leafed apses and cool marble columns create a richly ornate setting, crowned by the magnificent organ with 3,000 pipes. From June to October at 1pm, a daily organ recital fills the space with soaring melodies, offering a musical escape from the lunchtime heat.

Hauser & Wirth Gallery

Catch the boat over to Illa del Rei, a quaint island just beyond the harbour of Mahón, and pay a visit to Hauser & Wirth. With galleries also in London and Somerset, this Menorcan edition puts on fascinating exhibitions that focus on community and nature. Mika Rottenberg’s first solo show ‘Violent Matter’ is on now until October 26 and Cindy Sherman’s exhibition ‘The Women’ will open June 23.

Star Gazing

With special protection from the Starlight Foundation, Menorca’s night skies are safeguarded from light pollution. There are plenty of spots to stargaze, but we recommend heading to Monte Toro, the tallest point on the island, offering panoramic vistas of the sky and sea. Binibeca, a charming fishing village, also has clear skies, as it is sequestered away from the city lights.

Cave Bar

Head to Cova d’En Xoroi, a trendy bar concealed in a cavernous precipice overlooking the ocean. With magnificent views of amber sunsets, accompanied by flowery Balearic beats wafting through the evening air, this bar delivers on atmosphere and gastronomy.

To make the most of the Mediterranean summer, we recommend island hopping between the Balearic Islands, staying at Six Senses Ibiza for its infinity pool, or Jumeirah Mallorca for its cliffside vistas. Of course, you can discover and book your perfect stay through ASMALLWORLD Collection.
