This is a lively and fun hotel with a very flashy selection of colour schemes and equally flamboyant design styles. Set in the heart of the city and directly opposite the Petronas Towers, you’ll be steps from the Suria KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) mall with its myriad of shopping options (over 300), KLCC Park and plenty of dining and drinking options are all nearby as are the Botanical Gardens and Chinatown.

Arriving at the hotel’s porte cochère, you’ll know you’re in for something special. The dramatic entry, all glass, is beautifully lit-up in purple with a massive W making sure you know you’ve arrived. Within, the lobby is equally splashy with decorative hanging lamps setting the dramatic scene. Expect superb service across the board, with the W’s trademark “Whatever/ Whenever” concierge cum butler service on hand to tend to your every fancy, 24/7.

Rooms, all 150 of them, are contemporary in design, flirty in Malaysian-style decor and well-stocked with everything you could possibly fancy, including gorgeous fluffy robes, super-soft bedding, a Nespresso machine and a minibar that’s stocked and ready for you to mix your first drink of the evening with a sneaky snack. Views from the rooms are over the Towers or the city centre, and, as with most high rise hotels, the higher up you go, the better. Colour is the name of the game within these rooms, and the entry-level category has a choice of two queens or a king-size bed as well as a separate shower and tub. Amenities are by Davines. Top of the line is the EWOW suite which is everything its name suggests. At 520 sq m, it’s probably the largest suite in the city.

Dining and drinking venues are everything you’d expect. Sultry lighting, superb service and some of the very best cuisine in the city awaits at Flock which serves modern Australian cuisine and is open for every meal. Sunday brunch, hosted twice a month, is the very best out there. Then there’s Yen, serving fantastic, upbeat Chinese food and Woobar: a chic venue for a pre or post-prandial cocktail as the DJ spins his tunes. After-dinner drinks, or all-day ones if you have time off, are best taken at WET Deck, a beloved fixture at many W hotels, those with pools anyway, around the world.
