Villa Cora
Florence, Italy
About the hotel
"Perfectly situated in an affluent residential neighbourhood adjacent to the Boboli Gardens, the luxurious Villa Cora is a fantasy-land of OTT style and elegance with marvellous dining and outstanding facilities."
Add to this the brilliant service in all departments and the city of Florence on the doorstep that begs to be explored, and you’re well set up for a holiday to remember, guaranteed. To start, there’s history here by the droves. Originally the private residence of Baron Oppenheim when Florence was still the capital of the Kingdom of Italy at the end of the 19th century, Villa Cora became a hotel in the 1960s. In 2010, after a major three-year mega-buck renovation, the hotel re-opened to much acclaim.

Everywhere you look you’ll be bedazzled. The faux Rococo style is catching, and the use of mirrors, twinkling chandeliers, rich frescos, ornate carpets, antiques and artwork is too beautiful to describe. Take breakfast, leisurely, outside on the terrace in the warmer months, and lunch and dinner later on. Stay indoors when weather prohibits al fresco moments. Either way, you’ll be well-fed and pampered; the chef prepares a dynamic feast that changes with the seasons. He even offers cooking classes, perfect for those who have a desire to bring home a Florentine souvenir of a different source. Drinks on a summer’s eve are served poolside or else on the rooftop terrace – a perfect place for sundowners to watch the sun set slowly over the city. In either location, you’ll find it hard to say no to that second drink.
Rooms and suites – 44 in total – are all resplendent. The top choices are those on the first floor, where you’ll enjoy original parquet floors, frescoed ceilings, antiques, four-poster beds and splendid Carrara marble bathrooms. Decadent-smelling bathing accoutrements from Florence’s very own Santa Maria Novella perfumers are pretty special. As are the other nice touches for ladies like the pink slippers and robes, as well as lavender sachets which are left on the pillows at turn-down.
Family rooms are available if you’re travelling with children (or others), and there are also nine exclusive suites if you really want to pull out all the stops. We suggest you do.
