High ceilings and enormous windows make the spaces feel even larger than they are – and they’re already generously sized to begin with. By New York City standards, the accommodations are positively roomy, with even the entry-level Superior Rooms starting at 31 square metres.
Guests of the Whitby will have just about every imaginable cuisine on their doorstep, with hundreds of spectacular eateries located within just a few minutes' stroll. One great option is set within the hotel itself: the Whitby Bar and Restaurant. Elevated yet approachable and magnificently designed (think gorgeously upholstered banquettes, spectacular artwork and a 30-foot pewter bar beneath dozens of suspended wicker baskets), this spot is beloved by hotel guests and New Yorkers alike. Start your day there with avocado toast or an açai banana split in the morning, and come back later for a lunch of housemade squid ink tagliatelle or a skirt steak dinner. Afternoon tea is served here as well, and live performances are particularly worthwhile. More formal meals can be enjoyed in the adjacent Orangery, which is a lovely, light-filled space.
Before a stay at The Whitby Hotel, be sure to have a peek at the property’s calendar: live music is hosted every Saturday evening, featuring both established and emerging New York City talent. Equally fabulous are Friday evenings from 6-9, which are dedicated to Negronis and Jazz music (a superb combination) in both the Whitby Bar and Orangery.
