Aesthetically speaking, The Westin isn’t anything that we’ve never seen before. The Spanish-inspired architecture feels a little generic, but the property’s awe-inspiring natural surroundings more than make up for it. The guest rooms themselves (of which there are 406) are attractive and spacious, with a bright, breezy ambience and refreshingly pared-down vibe. Earth-inspired shades and an inviting indoor-outdoor layout pay homage to the natural world outside, which can be enjoyed from the comfort of your own private balcony or terrace, of which every accommodation has one.

The lands and waters of Costa Rica are a veritable treasure trove of divinely fresh and flavourful ingredients, and this abundance is capitalised on in the resort’s dining scene. The only real difficulty we encountered was knowing where to start: the resort is a dining destination unto itself with a dozen options for food and drink. By the pretty beach, you’ll find Manglar: a seafood-focused eatery with an easygoing ambience and delicious sangria. The flavours of the Far East make a splash at Bamboo, where you can enjoy delicacies from across the continent of Asia. Laid-back BBQ can be enjoyed at the poolside El Ranchito, while those guests seeking a more sophisticated meal will be delighted by the restaurant Faisanella. Cauri Lobby Bar & Bistro is an open-air spot for tasty tapas and killer cocktails (we recommend the Evil Geisha), while more libations can be enjoyed at Triton Pool Bar, Nautilus Bar or Astrea Theatre Bar & Lounge.
The resort’s stunning beachfront location means endless opportunities for adventure on the sand and in the waves, and guests would also be remiss to pass up the opportunity to explore the surrounding natural wonderland. The resort offers excursions to nearby waterfalls, volcanoes and rainforests, all of which are unforgettable opportunities to discover the beauty of Costa Rica. Those who’d prefer to stay closer to the resort will be equally well-catered to, with a laundry list of amenities that includes a superb spa, beautiful outdoor tennis courts and one of the most gorgeous championship golf courses we’ve ever seen.
