Ideally located just across Lakeshore Drive from Navy Pier, The Wade is a perfect home base from where to explore the city, whether you’re here for an extended business trip or a quick weekend of sightseeing. You’ll be staying within a ten-minute walk of the Chicago Children's Museum, Ohio Street Beach and the Museum of Contemporary Art, and just a quick jaunt from the upscale shops on Michigan Avenue.

The interior design here is a mix of nautical and industrial elements. The guest rooms are striking, decked out almost entirely in black and white, which draws attention to the city and lake views that you can enjoy from the cosy windowside seating in every room. Standing in sharp contrast, the Vice Presidential and Presidential Suites are accepted by vibrant colours, like an electric blue sectional sofa curving through the living room, offering plenty of seating for guests. The Presidential Suite maintains a touch of the whimsy of the hotel’s former identity as a W Hotel, featuring a hanging basket chair, a foosball table and a record player.

Dine on seasonal American cuisine at Current, where mornings start with berry-topped Belgian waffles, chicken chilaquales or country fried steak and gravy. If you’re kicking off a laid-back weekend, the mimosa kit with a variety of juices is a popular choice, but you’ll also find nutrient-packed protein smoothies if you’re fueling up for a day of sightseeing. Later in the day, the menu features bruschetta boards, flatbreads, white wine pasta and some decadent desserts. Current Bar is a stylish spot to sip signature cocktails or try a local beer, while the seasonal patio is the perfect place to watch the world go by.

The heated indoor pool opens before dawn, so you can get a few laps in before the city starts to come to life, and it’s open late if you like to unwind with a relaxing swim after a night out. While the fitness centre isn’t huge, it does have everything from yoga balls to rowing machines, and it’s open around the clock. The tree-lined trails at the park across the street are a lovely place for a jog, and the Lakefront Trail just across the street is good for seemingly endless miles of picturesque walking. Even if you aren’t planning to stretch out on a sun lounger or curl up in a shaded chair with a good book, the sun deck is worth a visit if only to take in the panoramic views of the shore and Navy Pier.
