If you come back laden with shopping bags, the doorman will graciously unburden you, leaving you free once again to explore – this time your surroundings – to decide where to have drinks and dinner later on for, it has to be said, the food and beverage options here are some of the most innovative we’ve seen in a long while. Starting at the St. Regis Bar with its dark blue walls and gleaming gold Oriental artwork, it’s an elegant, welcoming venue with silk sofas and leather chairs. It’s the perfect place to enjoy this particular property’s traditional St. Regis bloody mary: the Shogun Mary – expect a hit of wasabi.
Head up and out if weather permits. If you’re in a party mode, you’ll love The St. Regis Beer Garden 2019 (initiated in 2012, it changes yearly), the hotel’s equivalent to a true-blue American happy hour which always lasts longer. Located on the 12th floor of the hotel, it’s an all-you-can-drink in 90 minutes affair; prices vary if you go for the beer or champagne option (of course), and food is served, too, in the form of informal platters.
But don’t let all the fun allow you to ignore the restaurants here which really are stand-out options. You’re in Japan, so Teppanyaki Restaurant WAJO is an obvious choice where the Kobe and Ishigaki beef on the menu is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The St. Regis sommelier will advise you of the best sake and wine pairings with each bite.
Modern Italian cuisine is offered at La Veduta also on floor 12, where you can enjoy the city views from the romantic venue, especially in the evenings. French bistro-style fare is a popular choice for locals and guests alike at the Rue d’Or where high tea is also served – the dessert buffet seems to be everyone’s favourite.
