Located in the heart of the Coachella Valley on a quiet mountainside that’s less than a 15-minute drive from downtown Palm Springs, The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage sits in a picture-perfect location allowing you to enjoy being so near and yet so far from the city that you’ll feel you’re almost on a ranch retreat. Relax and unwind, or don’t and hit the town instead. Let your mood be your guide.

Desert-dwelling at its finest, it’s no surprise that inspiration for the decor and overall feel of the property comes from its mountainside surroundings. Everywhere you look, shades of brown work their magic with pops of green and russet here and there. The stonework is also proficiently used, bringing the desert indoors to the rooms and common areas including the lobby and check-in desk.

Staying here will set you back a wee bit, but you’ll feel the price is value for money in many ways. Exceptional service, attention to detail and the feeling you are being indulged every step of the way is what the team here strive to achieve – mission accomplished.

Rooms and suites (there are 244 all-in) all have balconies or patios, and some even have private firepits which are pretty romantic. Bathrooms are generous in size with Asprey amenities and separate tubs and showers. Frette linens on the beds ensure a perfect night’s sleep, and you’ll wake up to the Nespresso machine in your room before heading down to breakfast (buffet style). Perfect bliss.

The hotel’s approach to food is what we wish the world would embrace in an effort to keep things sustainable. They support farms, ranches and fisheries, most of them local, that are guided by principles of sustainability. And the food is good, really good. Make reservations at The Edge steakhouse and enjoy a wonderful meal of meat, sumptuous side dishes and some powerful (and some that are less tanic) wines.

Recreation and relaxing are taken seriously in California; here too at the Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage. The spa has some wonderful treatments on offer, including the CBD Healing Recovery Massage which includes up to four hemp-based products to aid you on your way to nirvana. It’s definitely worth a try, after which a few hours poolside at the adult-only vista pool (as opposed to the family-friendly infinity-style air pool) may be in order.
