When it comes to selecting a room, starting at the top are the Japanese Suites and the Ritz-Carlton Suites which leave little to be desired. But if you’re looking for something a little less grandiose, go for the Club Rooms (there are 63, including suites) where you can watch TV in your bathroom as well as your room, and, when you’re up and dressed, avail yourself to some superb amenities including access to the Club Lounge (serving breakfast, drinks and nibbles all day, daily) and a dedicated concierge.

Whatever category you do decide upon, all rooms have views and are beautifully appointed with Georgian-themed décor and plush carpets and colourful drapes. They all come with some superb mod cons, including a Nespresso machine, a flat-screen TV, complimentary bottled water, and a bedside panel to adjust the drapes and lighting.

After a day on the town, you'll look forward to coming back to the hotel and enjoying the indoor pool, the state-of-the-art gym with its sauna, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis and, possibly, even the decadent spa where a matcha green tea facial is sure to rejuvenate, as is a caviar facial by La Prarie. Relax afterwards in the garden patio, Japanese tea is complimentary, of course.

Dining here is a virtual smorgasbord of cuisines, starting with French fare at the one Michelin-starred La Baie. There’s also an exciting Japanese restaurant, Hanagatami, which offers everything from sushi to sumibiyaki (and some very fine saké) and Cantonese cuisine at Xiang Tao. There’s a lobby bar for afternoon tea and another elegant option when it comes to whetting your whistle in Osaka, The Bar, which is a must for a pre or post-dinner tipple.
