Berlin is a city of things to do. Drenched in culture and history, the city is rich with landmarks, art and all manner of entertainment and gastronomic experiences. As such, hotel location is of paramount importance if you’re hoping to do and see as much as you can while you’re here. The shopping, nightlife and plentiful eateries of Potsdamer Platz make the square one of the city’s top locations, and The Ritz-Carlton Berlin is one of the most perfectly posh options right in the centre of the action.

Inside the sandstone tower, the hotel is luxe as can be. Contemporised art-deco sensibilities dominate the design of the hotel’s 303 rooms; eye-catching geometric wall art and headboards stand out with bright pops of colour against neutral-hued walls. Decadent marble bathrooms impress, and perfectly-lit vanities pay homage to the glamour of the 1920s. Help yourself to a drink from the in-room honesty bar and take in the view; it’s likely to be a good one, as nearly all the rooms overlook Potsdamer Platz or Tiergarten.

Surprisingly, the hotel lacks a spa, however there are steam saunas, a fitness centre and a swimming pool to keep you energised. As the hotel is positively surrounded by things to do, its location is neighboured by the sprawling Tiergarten, enveloped by museums and is just a short walk to Brandenburg Gate, among other must-sees.

Despite all there is to see, do and eat outside the Ritz-Carlton’s doors, the hotel’s dining options are worth staying in for (at least once or twice). POTS restaurant offers a creative upgrade on traditional German fare in an intriguing dining room boldly decorated with swaths of bronze and ethereal glass lights suspended above tables. A cocktail at Fragrances is a delightfully olfactory experience, and a highly customised one – you’re encouraged to discover a drink by first choosing your favourite scents. Sample caviar while you sip a drink recommended by the resident Tea Master in the Lobby Lounge, or enjoy live Latin music in the ambient Curtain Club. Once you’re fed, head out to explore. KaDeWe beckons.
