Situated within the 1909 Met Life clocktower – once the world’s tallest building – The New York EDITION is part of the EDITION hotel collection, the Marriott-owned brainchild of Ian Schrager. We love the neighbourhood. The hotel is directly alongside Madison Square Park, and The Flatiron District in NoMad (short for North of Madison Square Park) has many attractions, including Delmonico’s famous steak restaurant. You may not make it there, however, when you stay here – and no one would blame you. The awe-inspiring Clocktower restaurant with its vintage photographs everywhere you look, its circular bar and three separate dining rooms in three colours, jade, blue and pink, is helmed by Michelin-starred British chef Jason Atherton. After your meal, there’s a billiards room here to enjoy, just the place to sip on a digestif even if you're not into the sport itself.

For lighter bites, the menu in The Lobby Bar, also by chef Atherton, is very welcoming and has a 30-foot blackened steel fireplace for cosying up to on chilly days and nights. Locals and hotel guests alike gather here throughout the day, many stay on into the wee hours.

When it comes to decor, the hotel interiors are stunning – sleek and minimalist throughout the property – and with a striking, modern spiral staircase in the lobby. Rooms, lofts, studios and suites are sleek and chic, with soft shades of beige and cream used in all the fabrics and drapes; the light-toned wooden furniture blends in harmoniously. Pops of colour come from the fresh flowers on the side and bedside tables.

There’s a small gym and an even smaller spa here on property and, while the gym is open 24-hours, we suggest you slip into your trainers and go for a walk or a run in and around the park. It’s not nearly as big as Central Park, but it’s a great way to get to know the neighbourhood.
