Set in a landmark 1920s Neo-Gothic building smack in the heart of Dallas’ Central Business District, The Joule cuts an impressive figure. Modern yet nostalgic, intense yet playful, the hotel's interiors are a series of contradictions perfectly executed. The Joule’s character is unique and utterly unforgettable, and you’re bound to find something intriguing around every corner. Stylish guest rooms carry on that sense of intrigue, and range from the rather petite “Demi Joule” (best for solo travellers) to the positively palatial penthouses, of which there are four varieties. In all, the interior design is impeccable and the spaces are thoughtfully appointed with dark natural wood, Italian millwork and brilliant bursts of colour in the accents.

In addition to being a hotel, The Joule is something of a dining destination, with five separate establishments boasting a range of cuisine from around the country. CBD Provisions is a contemporary Texas brasserie that celebrates the state's rich culinary heritage and boasts an ambitious cocktail list. Popular with guests of the hotel and locals alike, the spot is particularly beloved for its Berkshire Pig Head Carnitas. Midnight Rambler is a snazzy, subterranean cocktail lounge with killer drinks and a buzzy ambience. Live music makes the spot especially worth a visit, and up-and-coming local DJs take centre stage on the weekends. Enveloped by artwork, the Lobby Bar is a prime spot for a drink or two before a night on the town, while Weekend is a third-wave coffee shop that promises to see to it that you are appropriately caffeinated each morning. Last but certainly not least is Mirador which is both a perfect spot for tea on Sundays as well as a bespoke spot for private gatherings.

The Spa at Joule offers highly customised treatments in a striking underground environment. Inspired by the geothermal spa techniques of Europe, this sanctuary-esque space offers rejuvenating heat experiences designed to restore body, mind and soul. The hotel also boasts a reasonably well-equipped fitness centre which remains open 24-hours a day – though you’re bound to get all your steps (and then some) in by exploring the city on foot.
