Smack in the vibrant heart of Thailand’s capital city is the Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok. The hotel's location is an enviable one, thanks to a prime location right on the riverfront and the ease with which its guests can find themselves whisked off to all corners of the city. River ferries are just steps away from the front door, and the hotel has direct access to the Sky Train. A stay here means that all of Bangkok will be your oyster, though an abundance of amenities might just make you want to linger at the hotel itself.

The hotel’s 802 rooms reside in two adjacent towers and are divided between those in the Shangri-La Wing and those in the Krungthep Wing. In the former, you’ll find the vast majority of the hotel’s accommodations, all of which are designed with a contemporary, East-meets-West sensibility. Some of these rooms tend towards the smaller side; for the best of the best, opt for a stay in the Krungthep Wing. These offerings are, in essence, an upgraded iteration of the Shangri-La rooms; guests staying here can expect ample legroom, high ceilings adorned with elegant chandeliers and charming outdoor spaces from which guests can enjoy outstanding views.

A plethora of options for food and drink make the Shangri-La a veritable dining destination – and a travelling one at that. Specifically, if you choose to dine on the Horizon Cruise: an elegant riverboat that serves its guest dishes both local and international as it sails past the many landmarks that flank the river. If you prefer to dine with your feet on solid ground, you’ll have much to choose from, with everything from authentic Cantonese cuisine at Shang Palace to quintessential Thai fare in one of Salathip’s teak pavilions. NEXT2 Café is a market-style affair with a gorgeous riverside setting, while Volti Restaurant & Bar brings the flavours of Italy to Bangkok. You’ll have three further options when you’re in the mood for a drink; our favourite is the Riverside Lounge which has wonderful views. For special occasions (or just because) guests with a sweet tooth can indulge in a decadent treat from the hotel’s Chocolate Boutique.
