All the stops have been pulled out for the Rosewood brand’s first property in South America. Set in the Brazilian city that shares its name, the Rosewood São Paulo has it all: Philippe Starck-designed interiors, a glamorous social scene and an eye-popping art collection, to name just a few allures. Set in a former century-old maternity hospital that has been given a new lease on life, the hotel enjoys an address in the bohemian Bela Vista neighbourhood. While the historical, still-under-construction Cidade Matarazza (and all the preserved early 20th-century buildings found within) will certainly soon become a draw, the Rosewood currently stands out as a destination unto itself.

The Rosewood's 181 rooms and suites are housed between both the original landmark building and a Jean Nouvel-designed vertical park tower. Original Italian architecture and lush greenery meld beautifully outside, creating an urban oasis ambience that extends to the guest rooms within. Inside, the handsome spaces are adorned with warm wood panelling, ample pops of crisp ivory and a fabulous assortment of carefully curated artwork and objects. Graceful floor-to-ceiling windows and elegant marble bathrooms further elevate the spaces, which feel magnificently, quintessentially Brazilian.

Dining at the hotel is a treat, and a good first foray into the spectacular gastronomy scene of São Paulo at large. French culinary tradition and Brazilian flavours fuse at Blaise: a restaurant inspired by the life and work of Blaise Cendrars. Set in a space designed to emulate an Alpine cabin, the menu here features inspired dishes with surprising flavour combinations alongside a good wine list of bottles from both Brazil and France. Chef Felipe Bronze is the man behind Taraz, which is a charming spot for curated South American fare, enjoyed either in the eclectic dining room or out on the spacious terrace. For breakfast, coffee or bites throughout the day, visit Le Jardin; for drinks, try Rabo di Galo for live music and a mixology-focused menu, or Bela Vista Bar for oversized floral armchairs, Mediterranean dishes and unique, antique-filled environs.

Though you're bound to get your steps in exploring the supremely walkable neighbourhood on foot, the hotel also features an impressive fitness centre and hosts regular yoga and pilates classes, and there’s also a collection of beautiful pools.
