Linda Bedell-designed accommodations comprise just 22 suites alongside two villas: one with two bedrooms and the largest with four. All are romantic, inviting and impeccably designed, with interiors reflecting a luxurious, elevated take on the farmhouse aesthetic that feels at once both grand and deliciously homey. Private outdoor spaces feature far-reaching views, the most spectacular of which can be enjoyed from the villas. The largest option – the Hawke’s Bay Four Bedroom Villa – includes a sheltered courtyard, private Jacuzzi, outdoor barbecue and stone terrace.

No expense is spared when it comes to mealtimes at Cape Kidnappers. Everything, from luxurious breakfasts to gourmet picnics, is impossibly fresh, and ingredients are carefully sourced from local suppliers and the abundant kitchen garden. Seasonally changing menus highlight regional fare and are unfailingly sublime, with fabulous meat and seafood dishes taking centre stage. Tasting menus are even better when paired with the matching wine list, which features standout New Zealand bottles. Unless you’re enjoying them somewhere out on the rambling grounds, meals are taken in the Dining Room, which is located in the main lodge and features floor-to-ceiling glass doors that offer inspiring views of the landscape and the sea beyond.

The par-71 Cape Kidnappers golf course has been hailed as a modern marvel since it debuted in 2004. Designed by Tom Doak and elevated 140 metres above sea level, the course features cliff-edge fairways and a singular landscape that makes visitors feel they’re playing along the edge of the earth. Within the course grounds, golfers will find practice facilities, a pro shop and a charming clubhouse with a wraparound terrace.
