Centrally located in the desirable Eixample neighbourhood, this downtown establishment puts the best that the city has to offer on its doorstep. Must-visits like La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter are just an easy stroll away, and the surrounding streets feature some of the best dining and shopping in the city. Gaudí masterpieces Casa Batlló and La Pedrera both take less than ten minutes to reach by foot, and even the Sagrada Familia is within walking distance – though a quick metro trip will deliver you there in half the time.

The Renaissance's 211 guestrooms and suites are inspired by the city itself and combine a Mediterranean colour palette with nods to Barcelona's celebrated architecture. The rooms themselves are sleek and contemporary: calm areas of refuge amongst the hustle and bustle of the city. Decor is kept to a minimum – heightening the feeling of serenity – but artistic accents can be found in the details: creative rugs laid over parquet wooden flooring, unexpected lighting fixtures, eye-catching framed prints and abstract privacy panels obscuring the bathrooms’ showers, for example.

Begin your day with an ample breakfast at the contemporary CRU Restaurant, which features a stylish dining room and views over a verdant pedestrian street to go with its international fare. Come lunchtime, fresh local produce takes centre stage at Rumbo Bar & Eatery, which serves Mediterranean fare with global influences alongside wine, cocktails and craft beers. In the warmer months, Goja Rooftop is our favourite on-site hangout: this open-air bar is resplendent with lush greenery, a chic plunge pool and panoramic views of downtown. Visit in the evenings to watch the sun go down as you enjoy live music and a buzzy crowd.

While the rooftop pool isn’t sufficiently sized for swimming laps, guests will be able to get their daily workout in thanks to the hotel’s 24-hour fitness centre and the cardio equipment, strength equipment and free weights found within.
