Newly renovated and re-debuted as part of the Luxury Collection brand, Patmos Aktis, a Luxury Collection Resort and Spa is back and better than ever. A boutique escape set just steps away from the sand on the island that shares its name, Patmos Aktis offers a stylish place to stay amidst the natural beauty, charming traditional villages and rich history of Patmos.
Refreshed suites and guest rooms feel quintessentially Grecian with their white walls, stone accents and modern minimalist design. Superfluous distractions are virtually nonexistent, though the spaces are saved from being boring thanks to carefully placed accents and touches of nautical shades – a book here, a decorative throw there – alongside objets d’art and attractive design features such as alluring ambient lighting built into arched alcoves. Stone bathrooms are sleek and minimalist, and some feature private balconies. It’s worth noting that many accommodations leave something to be desired in terms of window size and natural light. To work around this, opt, if you can, for a room with a private pool or sweeping landmark views.
Speaking of natural light, Aktis Beach is literally right outside the hotel and is framed by rock formations and lapped by crystalline waters, making it an idyllic spot for sunbathing and all manner of adventures both above and below the water. The nature of the region is further woven into the treatments and restorative therapies at Anasa Wellness & Spa, where guests can enjoy rituals using flora such as jasmine flowers, ligaria, heather and eucalyptus.
For those wishing to venture further afield, there are countless opportunities for island hopping, monastery visits, vineyard tours and art and history walks through the old village of Chora, the island’s capital.
Breakfast is served buffet-style at the beautiful ground-level restaurant (sit outside if you can) and features everything from handmade pies and freshly baked pastries and breads to homemade cheeses and traditional Patmian recipes. For lunch and dinner, the resort celebrates Greek and Italian dining across its two restaurants. Cielo e Mare is the resort’s elegant waterfront restaurant (and is particularly gorgeous at sunset), which utilises locally sourced ingredients in its gastronomic cuisine. Meanwhile, PLEFSIS Traditional Tavern is beloved for its unfussy waterside setting and authentic home-cooked Greek specialities, which are inspired by both local flavours and the Dodecanese at large. For drinks, Cielo All-Day Bar is a laid-back al fresco spot with fabulous views over the bay.
