No visit to Milan would be complete without a day spent shopping – or several. As one of the fashion capitals of the world, boutiques are everywhere, and a number of the city’s very best are within the nineteenth-century shopping arcade that is Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Overlooking the beautiful Galleria is the Park Hyatt Milan, an elegant hotel in a location that could not be more quintessentially Milanese.

The Park Hyatt’s baroque facade opens up to an elegant interior of black marble and light travertine, above which soars the glass-domed ceiling of the Cupola Lobby Lounge. The contemporary rooms are minimalist and cosy, with Venetian stucco, Murano lamps and a neutral palette interrupted here and there by pops of colour from contemporary artwork and orchids. All rooms have enormous marble bathrooms and tea and coffee-making necessities, while higher-level rooms come with welcome gifts such as yoga mats and fruit plates. In the more decadent suites, you’ll find silk kimonos in place of bathrobes and various perks like treadmills or spacious private terraces.

After a day spent shopping, have a cocktail at Mio Lab; as its name suggests, the bar’s mixology offerings are creative and fun. Authentic Milanese cuisine in a glamorous setting can be found at Dehors, which is situated on a veranda overlooking the Galleria. The La Cupola Lounge is the go-to for a breakfast buffet and a mix of Milanese and international dishes throughout the day in a beautiful setting. But the real gem of the hotel is the Pellico 3 Milano, a gastronomic experience with seasonal Mediterranean dishes.

The hotel’s one downside is the lack of a pool; you’ll have to make do with the fitness centre instead. There is also a spa; it’s small but luxurious and boasts a nail salon and a whirlpool layered with 24-carat gold-leaf tiles

The hotel caters to little ones with amenities and gifts for children. Furbabies are also well looked after with the “Very Important Dog” programme, which provides pooches with luxury amenities, pet-sitting services and meals prepared around any dietary restrictions your pup may have.

Once you’ve explored the Galleria to your heart’s content, more luxe shopping can be found a short walk away at the fashionable Via della Spiga. Should you tire of shopping, Piazza del Duomo and Milan’s opera house Teatro alla Scala are also just steps away.
