As the first luxury Hyatt hotel in South Africa (and one of the smallest Park Hyatts in the world), the Park Hyatt Johannesburg draws attention with its personalised service, striking interior design and location in a restored landmark building in the prestigious Rosebank district. Rosebank Shopping Mall, which boasts a rooftop market and gourmet dining, is within a five-minute walk, and you’re within a ten-minute drive of the zoo, botanical garden, golf clubs and several art galleries.

Each of the 31 guest rooms and suites is decorated to subtly reflect the wonders of South Africa’s landscapes from forests to the sea, and all come with a private terrace, some with pool or garden views. The Winston Suite features a striking wood-and-mirror-lined wall reminiscent of a giraffe print, which complements the subtle zebra-print rug, while the Rosebank Suite is a bit lighter but still hints at a safari-inspired style. At 62 sqm, the Wellness Suite is the hotel’s most spacious option, and comes with a private hot tub perfect for a soothing soak after a long travel or touring day.

Breakfast is served on The Terrace, which has lush garden views and continues its relaxed dining with impeccable service throughout the day, including high tea. The Lounge is also open most of the day, ready to serve up a glass of wine, a hot cup of tea or coffee or a casual meal whenever you’re in the mood. Decked out in Middle Eastern style, Whispers of Diriyah brings modern Arabian cuisine to South Africa, with a flavourful menu of mezze, Tandoor chicken, lamb dishes and baklava. A traditional Yemeni breakfast is also served here, with slow-simmered stew, poached eggs in pepper sauce and spicy Paratha omelettes. Room 32 pays homage to local history with local cuisine at a relaxed weekend brunch, multi-course degustation dinners with South African wines and a decadent three-course high tea.

The fitness centre is on the smaller side but is well-equipped, while the heated outdoor pool feels especially tranquil in its lush garden setting. Visit the spa to unwind with treatments inspired by local ingredients, or simply stroll through the gardens, where you might spot one of the resident peacocks strutting around.
