Celestial Villas, for example, feature large lounging spaces and telescopes to encourage stargazing, while Canyon Villas are enveloped by sandstone cliffs and enjoy expansive desert views. Art Villas overlook some of the creative Desert X installations, while Wellness Villas are located near the Thuraya Wellness Centre and have extra in-room amenities focused on rest and rejuvenation. Wherever you choose to stay, expect beautifully designed spaces that marry contemporary aesthetics with regional textures and traditions. Earth tones, natural materials and enormous windows allow interiors to flow easily into exteriors, and the surrounding views are awe-inspiring.
Tama is the resort’s culinary and social heart, serving inspired cuisine built on local ingredients and spices once traded along the incense route. Dine here for all meals of the day, from mezze breakfasts in the mornings to mocktails on the terrace at dusk.
Thuraya Wellness is the resort’s destination for all things rejuvenating, whether that means experiencing ancient restorative remedies like tapping, sound baths and sand bath body treatments, or more contemporary ‘Body Hacking’ offerings like dynamic air compression procedures. Movement offerings include yoga and meditative dance, and there’s a small fitness centre as well. Those who prefer to exercise outdoors will have plenty of options; hiking and cycling are two easy ways to get out and explore the gorgeous surrounding landscape.
Other ways to experience the region and its history include stargazing at the rock formations of Gharameel, elixir mixology master classes and art tours of ATHR Gallery and the five Desert X installations. When you’re ready to venture further afield, take a day trip to Hegra: the largest conserved site of the Nabataean civilisation and the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Saudi Arabia.
