The Knights of Malta were a religious military order, so luxury wasn’t their top priority at initial construction. Thankfully, the restoration addressed this quite splendidly. The 40 rooms and suites are wonderfully spacious and beautifully appointed in rich, warm colours which contrast nicely with calm creams of the walls. Many of the suite categories have private terraces or balconies, and Garden Suites even have their own private gardens. Many of the suite categories have private terraces or balconies, and Garden Suites even have their own private gardens. The majority of rooms enjoy views of the Adriatic Sea, which sits serenely just under 500m from the property.
The various restaurants offer a variety of settings and cuisines. The San Domenico Restaurant serves a masterclass in the local cuisine, with the finest ingredients and techniques elevating the relatively simple dishes. Coupled with the setting’s beautiful vaulted ceilings, it’s considered to be quite the culinary landmark. The mouth-watering pastries at the light and airy Sala del Fico make for a delightful spot of breakfast, especially on the sunny terrace. Seafood lovers will rejoice at the gorgeous beachside La Nassa, with stunning, open-air views of the Adriatic and equally exquisite food. A poolside grill and al fresco options round out the dining choices, but it’s certainly worth heading to the elegant Bar Ulivo for either an aperitivo or digestivo.
The facilities at Masseria San Domenico are particularly impressive in scope. The beautiful spa is well-equipped, with Thalassotherapy and olive oil-based treatments being the signatures of the house. The surrounding grounds are gorgeous, and both the olive groves and the gardens are ideal for a romantic stroll or a bike ride. For more vigorous pastimes, there’s a wonderful outdoor free-form saltwater pool, an indoor pool, tennis courts and access to the championship 18 hole San Domenico golf course which boasts incredible views over the Adriatic. Nearby are two beautiful beaches: the private San Domenico a Mare Beach, exclusive for hotel guests, and the wonderfully idyllic and secluded La Fonte Cove.
