About the hotel
"Housed within the top-level floors of the prestigious Mitsui Tower, the Mandarin Oriental is a haven of luxurious tranquillity with unbeatable views and two Michelin-starred eateries."
Nihonbashi is now a commercial and business district, but it’s also known as the traditional centre of Tokyo. When you stroll through the streets around the hotel amidst the modern shops and businesses, you’ll notice those that have been in the same family for generations, from seaweed merchants to kimono makers.
After zipping up in the elevator to the lobby on the 37th floor, you’ll be greeted by walls of glass that offer uninterrupted panoramic views across the city, striking vistas that are framed at every opportunity throughout the hotel. After zipping up in the elevator to the lobby on the 37th floor, you’ll be greeted by walls of glass that offer uninterrupted panoramic views across the city, striking vistas that are framed at every opportunity throughout the hotel. Guest rooms and suites are some of the largest in the city, and more glass walls give an incredible sense of space and light. Inspired by Japanese nature and traditions, each tranquil room and suite includes design details like delicate leaf-motif fabrics, paper lanterns and bamboo walls, alongside high-spec televisions and sound systems.
Bars and restaurants within the property are superb, and there are over ten to choose from. Amongst them, Signature offers Michelin-starred French fine dining, while Sense offers artistic contemporary Cantonese cuisine and a fabulous dim sum brunch over the weekend. Of course, there’s a sushi bar, too, and for something more casual there’s The Pizza Bar on 38th. For an extra special experience, Tapas Molecular Bar with its Michelin star can be booked for eight diners to enjoy innovative molecular cuisine – around 20 bite-sized morsels served over the course of two hours.
When it comes to recreation, the spa here offers traditional spa and signature therapies, plus beauty treatments and invigorating heat and water experiences. There is also a fully-equipped fitness centre, and guests looking for culture won’t have to go far either, as within the Mitsui Tower, there’s the Memorial Museum art gallery. Inside, fascinating displays cover the history of the Mitsui Family which extends over 300 years (1603-1868), and where there is also the chance to learn more about the Japanese culture.
