A luxurious getaway set in the prestigious Shatti Al Qurum neighbourhood, the Mandarin Oriental, Muscat has managed to get just about everything right. Opened in June 2024, the brand’s launch in the country features elevated design, ample amenities and a fabulous perch on the Gulf of Oman.

The rich culture of the city inspires every inch of the hotel, beginning the moment guests step through the door. French designer Xavier Cartron blends his expertise with Omani heritage and modern design to create beautiful spaces, starting with the lobby, which boasts soaring ceilings, three fountains and a magnificent chandelier fashioned from jewel-toned crystal lanterns. Beyond the elegant foyer, 150 guest rooms and suites await. Inspired by the seaside, these contemporary spaces are large and airy, with generous floor plans and full-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural light. An ethos of understated luxury is immediately evident, and the addition of Omani artistic tradition and craftsmanship creates spaces that are both calm and visually striking. All rooms feature unique artworks, private balconies and bathrooms with standalone tubs separate from walk-in showers. Book your accommodation based on the views you fancy most – be that the Hajar Mountains, the city or the sea – and look to the higher floors to secure the most sweeping vistas.

Half a dozen eateries feature flavours both local and international, and there are dozens more restaurants within walking distance if you tire of what's on hand. All-day dining can be enjoyed at Rawya, a Silk Road-inspired Euro-Asian brasserie set in a chic al fresco spot by the pool. The menu features everything from beef mashakeek and Singaporean laksa to sujuk pide and Indonesian fried rice, and seafood nights are hosted every Thursday. Authentic Italian is the cuisine of choice at Essenza, where time-honoured classics are served in a handsome, greenery-bedecked space. In the lobby, Sawa Lounge is the hotel's ‘living room’, where guests can enjoy afternoon tea and light bites throughout the day. Nearby, the Mandarin Cake Shop features a tantalising array of pastries, cakes, viennoiserie and bread.

Wellness offerings at the Mandarin Oriental continue the brand’s reputation for excellence. Fitness classes include boot camps on Saturday mornings and yoga on Fridays, while a state-of-the-art fitness centre provides everything needed for a comprehensive workout on your own.
