Amidst the town of Positano where buildings in pretty pastel colours of pink, peach and white seem to almost cling to the cliffs, you’ll find the charming Le Sirenuse hotel. It was once the seaside summer home of the Sersale family who had the foresight to turn it into a hotel in 1951. How lucky we are.
The passion with which the hotel has been lovingly nurtured is evident throughout, and the Sersales’ impeccable, personal style is evident at every turn. Rooms feature majolica tiling and antiques that wouldn’t look out of place in a museum, mostly hand-picked by art connoisseur and patriarch, Franco Sersale. Almost all of the guest rooms, suites and junior suites offer the pleasure of looking out over the bay of Positano, most with a private terrace or balcony. The white-washed walls, vaulted ceilings and hand-made tiles on the floors are delightfully Italian. More incredible views of the sea and town can be admired from the comfort of the swimming pool which is surrounded by bountiful lemon trees. Simply while away an hour or two doing not very much at all, or head to the spa which offers a good range of massages, face and body treatments using AVEDA products. For the ultimate romantic experience, book the couples’ spa suite where signature treatments à deux can be enjoyed.
For the perfect end to your romantic day, dine with your beloved at the Michelin-starred La Sponda restaurant, but do book in advance. It’s very popular, for good reason, as the fresh flavours of dishes inspired by Naples and the Amalfi Coast are divine, while the setting is aglow with 400 flickering candles. The Champagne & Oyster Bar is equally atmospheric in the evening. Down some oysters and carpaccios with a glass of champagne millésimé or a cocktail. If your appetite has been whet, dive into a main course of pasta or risotto and stay to listen to the tunes of the resident DJ until late.
