On a postcard-perfect island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, Kisawa Sanctuary brings five-star luxury to the Mozambique Channel. This all-inclusive resort feels like a secluded private island escape, despite being just a quick helicopter ride from the international airport. If you’re planning a special event, you can reserve the entire resort, complete with restaurants and activities, just for you and your travel party.

There are just eight beachfront villas here, and each one is spectacular, with native grass fringing the roof, bespoke furnishings, local artwork and a mini-fridge stocked with your favourite snacks and refreshments. You can choose one, two or three bedrooms, all of which come with private outdoor space that includes an infinity pool, a deck with loungers, an outdoor shower and your private patch of the beach with access to the cove. All accommodations come with butler service and an electric ‘mini moke’ (similar to a golf cart) to zip around the resort.

The Main Terrace is your all-day dining destination, with international cuisine served in a laid-back atmosphere. For toes-in-the-sand dining, head to Cove Mussasa, where you can dine on fresh Mediterranean fare and seafood straight off the fishing boats while watching the waves roll in. Stop by the Pizza Tuk Tuk for a custom-made slice, or sit down to a flavourful meal of Mozambican cuisine at Baracca. In-villa dining and secluded, beachfront private dining options are also available.

On an island this beautiful, you’ll want to get outside as often as possible, and you’ll find plenty of unique experiences within easy reach. Go kayaking through the mangroves, visit Flamingo Beach to spot the iconic pink birds in the wild, or join a diving expedition to one of a dozen nearby sites, where you’ll encounter manta rays, sea turtles and colourful tropical fish. If you’re visiting between July and October, you may get lucky and spot majestic humpback whales breaching just off the shore.
