Set in the luxurious Aldea Zama neighbourhood is Kimpton Aluna Tulum: a beautiful getaway that perfectly balances being a tranquil oasis escape while still being just minutes away from the vibrance of downtown. The area’s gorgeous beaches are also close at hand; location-wise, you can’t do much better than this.

Sophisticated yet bohemian, the resort beckons with its blend of lush vegetation and contemporary architecture. Within, Kimpton Aluna comprises just 78 accommodations, all of which are designed to evoke profound feelings of relaxation. They succeed in doing just that: soft white walls, handcrafted wooden furniture and a blissful lack of superfluous decor all contribute to spaces that encourage one to exhale deeply. The artistic elements that are present are carefully placed: a brightly coloured accent pillow here, a woven yarn hanging there. Large windows flood the spaces with natural light, and some (but not all) rooms feature private balconies as well.

Parallel 20º is a restaurant named for the latitude circle that crosses the Yucatan Peninsula, and it's the influences of other destinations within that circle that inform the cuisine found within. Flavours from China to India to Thailand (and from right outside the resort’s doors) come together to form vibrant dishes for all meals of the day in an ethereal, light-filled space. Bhanu Sky Kitchen derives its name from the Sanskrit word for ‘sun,’ and is a vibrant outdoor kitchen with fire at its heart. Meals here are theatrical affairs: chefs masterfully combine elements of smoke, charcoal and fire to create mouthwatering dishes like slow-cooked short rib tacos, char-grilled lobster rolls and even Basque burnt cheesecake. Fabulous cocktails cement the venue’s status as a go-to rooftop bar, though you’ll also be able to enjoy drinks on the ground level thanks to a lovely swim-up pool bar.

Speaking of pools, Kimpton Aluna has two: the jungle-surrounded main one on the ground level, and a smaller (yet still fabulous) option on the rooftop terrace. If you’d rather take to the waves, you’re in luck: the resort is partnered with Tulum Distrito Panamera: a picture-perfect private beach club that’s just a fifteen-minute drive from Kimpton Aluna. Back at the resort, you’ll find Ikal Spa (try one of the Ancient Mayan-inspired treatments), alongside a 24-hour fitness centre and rooftop yoga classes.
