It’s Richard Branson’s Moroccan pride and joy, a place he calls his Morrocan home. You’ll soon see why; the resort has a homely feel and boasts everything you could wish for that’s inherent to Morocco, plus everything else needed for an exceptional sojourn.

There is nothing else quite like this tranquil retreat in the area, an hour’s drive south and a welcome escape from Marrakech. Book into one of the ten lavish Berber tents if you really want to live the dream, several of which have plunge pools enabling occupants to stargaze al fresco at night. Otherwise, there is a smorgasbord of 18 rooms and suites to choose from, scattered over the property. Suites have balconies or terraces, but even if yours doesn’t, you won’t miss much as life here revolves around the verdant gardens, outdoor pool (there’s an indoor one too), main dining terrace and the courtyards. You’ll be sharing the space with resident cheeky goats, ducks, donkeys, camels and plenty of croaking frogs at sunset.

When it comes time to dine, there’s a fireside bar for drinks, and the hotel restaurant serves an array of delicious Moroccan and international dishes on its awesome terrace. Berber shawls are provided in cooler evenings, and if it rains, the whole show moves indoors. In the summer months, the rooftop bar opens, and guests are greeted with spectacular views. Pop-up picnics can also be enjoyed, as well as meals poolside.

Eating aside, play tennis, work out in the gym, visit the spa and hammam and swim and frolic in the pool. For those seeking action, Atlas adventures are easily arranged like hikes, camel treks, quad biking and paragliding.

There’s a kids’ club that operates in the school holiday season, and the hotel has a shop on the premises where guests can buy locally made crafts and goods, perfect gifts to take home to those who back home who missed out on all the fun.
