If Courchevel at large is already synonymous with prestige, then Courchevel 1850 is the undisputed crème de la crème of it all. The highest and most luxurious of the villages that comprise the French Alpine resort, this is the ultimate destination for designer shopping, fine dining, an utterly glamorous vibe and (needless to say) spectacular skiing. It’s no surprise, then, that Courchevel 1850’s luxury hospitality scene is as posh as posh can be, with no shortage of supremely indulgent options to choose from. Among those options is Hôtel Barrière Les Neiges: a polished boutique escape perched on the Bellecôte piste.

Twenty-two guest rooms and an additional twenty suites comprise Les Neiges, which manages to be both unwaveringly stylish and cosy as can be. Interiors are the perfect picture of sophisticated, chalet-style glam: expect an abundance of gorgeous natural wood, cowhide accents, plush faux-fur touches throughout and white marble bathrooms. Alpine-inspired photography and bespoke details subtly reinforce the setting, and it’s worth noting that all accommodations offer views of the mountains (though some are better than others). Many accommodations also feature private outdoor spaces from which to enjoy said vistas.

At the heart of the hotel’s recently revamped culinary scene is Loulou – yes, the same Loulou as can be found in Paris. There, both French and Italian gastronomic influences combine in an enchanting space that channels the region’s alpine tradition. The menu skews traditional in a lovely sort of way; expect comfort dishes like aubergines à la parmigiana and nostalgic potato salads alongside more extravagant fare such as Petrossian caviar tagliolini and caramelised suckling pig. The restaurant’s inspired cocktail list also captures the spirit of the surrounding landscape, featuring delightful ingredients like pine tree liqueur, sage syrup and hazelnut whipped cream.

While skiing may be the most obvious reason to plan a visit, it’s really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to things to do. Dog sledging, hot air balloon rides and scenic alpine flights offer exhilarating opportunities for the adventure-inclined, while snowmobiling, tobogganing and snowshoeing provide alternative ways to enjoy the majestic scenery. Back at the hotel, the spa offers all manner of ways to reinvigorate yourself – from a dip in the 20-metre indoor swimming pool or a bracing ice bath, to having a go at the water fitness circuit.
