A glamorous getaway set in the heart of equally iconic Cannes, Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes is a quintessential Riviera retreat with a storied past. First opened in 1926, the immediately recognisable building has nearly a century of star-studded stories behind it; today, the glittery crowd and chic, buzzy scene remain as fabulous as ever.

The hotel’s address is about as prime as it gets, thanks to its position plumb across from the Palais des Festivals. In addition to providing red carpet views from its balconies, the location also places guests within sneezing distance of the beach and fabulously close to all the cafés, boutiques and restaurants in town. Within, 300-something guest rooms range from entry-level Superior Rooms – which are pint-sized at around 20 square metres – to a marvellous assortment of ‘Exception Suites’, some of which draw design inspiration from icons like Michèle Morgan and Christian Dior. All are attractively appointed spaces that blend contemporary sophistication with an Art Deco vibe, channelling both Hollywood and the French Riviera in equal measure. It’s well worth springing for a room with a terrace – doubly so if that terrace offers sea views. For the best vistas of all, opt for the Horizon Suite, which opens onto an expansive terrace with ocean panoramas, or the hotel’s crown jewel, the Majestic Suite, which features a private heated rooftop pool to accompany its breathtaking views.

Le Fouquet’s Cannes is the hotel’s signature restaurant – an elegant, old-fashioned Parisian brasserie created by the iconic chef Pierre Gagnaire. It evokes the glamour of Hollywood’s heyday with nostalgic touches and black-and-white Harcourt Studio portraits of cinema legends, and features a menu dominated by meat and fish dishes. For a change of pace and a more contemporary vibe, head to Ciro’s Cannes, which is bright, breezy and unfailingly chic. Dine indoors or out, and be sure to enjoy one of the fabulous signature cocktails while you’re there.
Le Fouquet’s Bar and the Terrasse Piscine bar are your two main options for drinks. Choose the former if you’re after a glamorous indoor setting with an art deco atmosphere; opt for the latter for a beachier mood and easy access to the pool.

Speaking of, the hotel’s expansive outdoor pool is a prime spot for both leisure and laps, though you’ll likely want to spend plenty of time lounging on a striped chair beneath a pretty scalloped umbrella at Ciro’s Cannes private beach club.
