Come here in the thick of summer, and you’ll love it or hate it – Cannes is known as a favourite haunt of foreigners, some with more money than sense. But come slightly off-season, and you’ll fall in love. Especially here at the elegant Hotel Majestic, where everything is slick and swanky and very, very red-carpet-ready.

The hotel sits on the famous Croisette, right across from the Palais des Festivals, hub of the Cannes Film Festival. Don’t bring a car, as everything is within walking distance: the glittering marina, the cafés and shops of rue d’Antibes and the Old Town are right outside your door. And if your Christian Louboutins are too high for you to go another step, an Uber is but a touch of a button away.

Come evening, if you can drag yourself out of Bar Fouquet’s and make it to the brasserie with the same name, you’ll enjoy a wonderful meal with service to match. Ciro's Cannes serves fresh seafood with stunning sea views, while La Terrasse Piscine is the perfect place to enjoy the beautiful weather with a relaxed poolside meal.

Allocate at least a day to enjoy the spa, followed by a few hours at the outdoor pool and a night of dancing and drinks at Bisous Bisous Club. During the day, children can enjoy the Kids’ Club, where they can learn about art and science or make new friends while playing games. Service is impeccable, and there’s a rock-solid team here that presumably goes to sleep (at whatever hour) dreaming of what you could possibly need or request the next day. They’re that intuitive, on the ball and sincerely helpful and huggable.
