A quintessential Pacific Northwest escape set in the heart of Seattle, the Grand Hyatt is a hotel for those travellers who want to be smack in the middle of the action. Indeed, this hotel is about as close to the action as you can get; a number of the city’s most iconic attractions – including the Space Needle and Pike Place Market – are virtually steps away.

The style of Seattle is channelled into the hotel’s 457 guestrooms, all of which are warm, welcoming and perfectly contemporary. A subtle Asian influence is present throughout from gorgeous wooden headboards to the bamboo plants found in every room. Neutral tones create a calming vibe that’s brightened here and there by rich orange throw blankets and pillows. Carrera marble bathrooms feel appropriately opulent, and rooms are well-appointed with thoughtful high-tech amenities like remote-controlled black-out curtains. A bit surprisingly – given its size – the hotel only has fourteen suites. These are well worth the upgrade – if you can snag one, that is – for their spa-like bathrooms, ample legroom and superior views.

A good assortment of dining options ensures that every palate will be satiated. Meat enthusiasts will be delighted to find that they can enjoy some of the area's best steak, without setting foot outside of the hotel, thanks to Ruth's Chris Steak House located in the lobby. For breakfast in the morning, or cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the evening, head to the Grand Club on the 27th floor where the food is good, and the views of the Seattle skyline are even better. For something easy, NYC Deli offers tasty baguette sandwiches, and there’s a Starbucks in the lobby for all things caffeine-related.

We’ve mentioned Pike Place and the Space Needle, but those are truly just the tip of the iceberg as far as area attractions go. More retail therapy can be found at the upscale Pacific Place and Westlake Shopping Centers (both of which are less than half a kilometre away) while art enthusiasts can take a breezy stroll to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum, the Frye Art Museum or the Seattle Art Museum itself. Theatre lovers can catch a Broadway musical at the nearby Paramount Theatre, while sports enthusiasts can take a quick taxi to CenturyLink Field or T-Mobile Park.
