Brazil’s São Paulo is a city unlike any other. In addition to being the country's financial epicentre (and one of the world’s most populous cities), this metropolis is one of the planet's most architecturally unique places. Thousands of buildings reflect a fascinating amalgamation of influences and eras, encompassing everything from historic 16th-century buildings to neo-Gothic cathedrals to a modernist masterpiece by legendary architect Oscar Niemeyer.
The sheer volume of things to see (and do!) in the city is staggering which makes choosing a hotel well-placed for exploration all the more important. The Grand Hyatt is one such hotel; while the building it resides in is rather less visually jarring than much of the region’s other architecture – this is likely to be a perk for some – the hotel enjoys a central location in the business district that lands it close to the domestic airport as well as being within walking distance of many shops and restaurants.

The hotel boasts 466 contemporary rooms and suites, and the first thing guests should do is aim high; book one on the highest floor you can to be rewarded with sweeping city panoramas. All accommodations are well-appointed and pleasantly – if not slightly impersonally – decorated in a straightforward design scheme of pretty blonde wood and calming shades of cream and mocha. Decor is restrained but doesn’t feel lacking, thanks to full-wall windows which let in ample natural light and frame those gorgeous city views – the best of which look out at one of the city’s most iconic landmarks: the dazzling Octávio Frias de Oliveira Bridge.

The hotel has two options for food and drink, the restaurant C-Cultura Caseira and N.U. Bar. The former serves all meals of the day, a sophisticated introduction to the city's diverse culinary influences. An array of familiar favourites (think hamburgers and spaghetti carbonara) will please even the pickiest of eaters, while an excellent grilled section will delight the carnivorously inclined. The cheerful N.U. Bar is set poolside, making it a convenient spot for an easy lunch or a pick-me-up cocktail.

Speaking of poolside drinks, the hotel has two spots to swim – one indoors and one out – alongside a large, well-equipped gym. Nearby, the hotel’s tranquil spa has seven treatment rooms and a salon, making it the perfect spot to recover from a day of adventures – or to get ready for one.
