The Domes of Elounda, Autograph Collection, promises an all-encompassing, uber-stylish holiday in Crete just across from the famous islet of Spinalonga. Arrive by car, by boat or - far more dramatically - by helicopter.

You’ll soon know why it’s called the Domes of Elounda, as the design incorporates both domes and pyramidal roofs in keeping with the local style. The earth tone that enrobes the buildings was chosen to blend in harmoniously with the surroundings, and the fact that the property is spread out over the hillside means you’re never far from a view.

Entry-level suites are large with separate living areas (with a sofa bed), Nespresso machines and balconies. Views vary from garden to sea, and you can have an outdoor Jacuzzi or a private pool. The luxury residences boast up to four bedrooms, modern kitchens and laundry facilities. If you’re here on a romantic getaway, you may want to book a room in Chora Adults-Only Luxury Retreat, a sort of resort-within-a-resort reserved for ages 16+ with access to all of the main resort’s amenities.

Dining here is delightful, with Thólos offering up a decadent buffet breakfast in the morning and local cuisine later in the day, all against a backdrop of picturesque views. There’s award-winning Greek cuisine at Makris, laid-back Mediterranean meals at Vilebrequin La Plage, classic Italian at Antonino’s and grab-and-go options at Core. The Grand Domes Bar is an elegant spot for evening cocktails, while the pool bars and beach bar make it easy to enjoy refreshing drinks and satisfying snacks without leaving your sun lounger. Note that breakfast is included, and dining plans are available.

Hike the surroundings, windsurf, kayak, or take a boat ride to a nearby spot. If you're a golfer, Crete’s only 18-hole golf course at Hersonissos is 53 km (33 miles) away. But if you prefer to stay put, you’ll find five swimming pools (including an adults-only pool), a sandy beach, special events like food festivals and BBQs, cooking classes and olive oil tastings.

There’s a kids’ club on-site, as well as a playground, scavenger hunts and eco-friendly activities.
