Complementing the seven-hundred-year-old castle are six idyllic Metairie Cottages – each of which promises an indulgently private stay – as well as The Longère (or ‘long house’), within which two-storey suites are housed. Within the main château are an additional seven rooms and suites, bringing the property’s grand total to just 29 accommodations in all. Within, inspirations both old and new blend brilliantly to create unforgettable spaces: think Old World architecture and an abundance of natural materials like wood and stone combined with eye-catching works of photography and contemporary art. Hermès chairs and other noble furnishings elevate the luxe factor, while playful lighting fixtures add a cheerful dose of whimsy. Magical suites call upon influences ranging from the seasons to the solar system (you’ll even find an original Star Wars poster in one), while the superlative cottages (which are available in one-to-five bedroom options) come with all manner of unexpected perks. In Cassioopée Cottage, for example, you’ll find a private wine cellar, while Dragon Cottage has an indoor stone fountain, and Pégase Cottage features a large, lofted wooden footbridge.
A dazzling 21,527-square-foot garden supplies much of the produce used in the hotel’s gastronomy scene – guests with green thumbs should take advantage of the Domaine gardener-led tours and tastings. Dyades at Domaine des Etangs is the estate’s principal eatery, within which a seasonally changing menu reflects the traditions and flavours of the region. Dine there (do be sure to make a reservation), or opt to have a picnic basket packed with all manner of delights to be enjoyed anywhere you’d like within the sprawling grounds.
Traverse a stone bridge to reach a preserved former mill, within which you’ll find the estate’s wellness centre. There, guests can enjoy treatments crafted in partnership with Odacité at Le Moulin. Elsewhere, you’ll find a thermal bath house alongside swimming pools both indoors and out, while active guests will find no shortage of opportunities for exercise, from tennis and horseback riding to cycling, rowing, hiking and more.
