A charming waterfront getaway known for its famous pink sand beach and laid-back luxury vibe, Coral Sands has been delighting guests since it was founded by an intrepid movie star in the 1960s. Everything about the property is designed to enchant – from its whimsical interiors and storybook design to its absolutely magnificent landscape, which enjoys a particularly picturesque slice of the Bahamas' Harbour Island.
The 38 accommodations found at Coral Sands are divided into bedrooms, cottages and seaside homes. Bedrooms are located within The Inn at the heart of it all, suites are set in The Briland House, and the newly redesigned cottages come in Sea and Garden varieties, with names that pay respect to their locations. At the upper end of the offerings are a trio of lavish digs: Villa Botanica, which has three bedrooms surrounded by lush landscaping, and two homes: Brett’s Home and Sharon’s Home, both of which feature four bedrooms apiece. All accommodations combine an easy-going beachy feel and – in places – minimalist design, alongside spectacular pops of unbridled cheer throughout. The delights found within are many: bathrooms done out in black-and-white chequered tiling, mirrors framed with seashells, four-poster beds swathed in splendidly vibrant fabrics and private outdoor spaces with bright pink chairs that call to mind lacy seashells. Driftwood, shiplap and rustic accents add an outdoorsy contrast to luxurious fabrics and hand-painted wallpaper. The result is nothing short of delightful.
The charm of the guest rooms extends to the property's culinary offerings, which include The Pink Mermaid and The Beach Bar at Coral Sands. The former is an Italian bistro with an enchanting Bahamian twist that’s open for both breakfast and dinner. Freshly caught seafood is a highlight here, naturally, as are the pasta and meat dishes, and the menu is supplemented with ingredients from the property's own Mediterranean gardens. Unsurprisingly, given its name, the space is set predominantly in flamboyant shades of pink, and the walls are festooned with spirited accents and local artworks. The Beach Bar is set within an open-air cabana by the sand and is a fabulous spot for a laid-back lunch and a Caribbean cocktail or two.
There are many ways to enjoy the island, from a dip in the heated freshwater swimming pool to a few games played on the property's tennis and pickleball courts, which are set in shades of blue and pink. Of course, you’d be remiss not to get out into the natural world a bit, whether by way of snorkelling, biking, deep-sea fishing or embarking on any number of enticing excursions.
