About the hotel
"A luxurious getaway on a coral-ringed paradise, Como Maalifushi occupies a beautifully unspoilt piece of the Maldives and boasts elegant villas, spectacular views and top-notch scuba diving."

Thirty-three of the hotel’s villas are overwater, while 32 other accommodations (a mix of suites, rooms, villas and residences) are tucked into the greenery on land. In true COMO style, all are the picture of elegant minimalism. Pine and thatched-roof buildings open up to rooms with vaulted ceilings, clean lines and softly bleached wood. Four-poster beds are swathed in wispy netting above crisp white linens, and floor-to-ceiling windows with billowing curtains lead to generously sized decks. Enormous Japanese-style soaking tubs are the centrepieces of gorgeous bathrooms perfumed by COMO’s signature scent. The simplicity of the design is expertly achieved; not a single element feels superfluous, and the result is luxurious serenity.
The day begins with sunrise yoga if you can pull yourself from the comfort of your bed. It’s worth it, even if only once, to see the colours that paint the horizon. Have a light breakfast (and post-yoga juice) in the open-air Madi restaurant. Lunch and dinner are served here later, along with theme nights – which means plenty of drumming and dancing. Stilted over the water is the restaurant Tai, which (a touch ironically) serves Japanese cuisine. After dinner, saunter over to the adjoining cocktail bar – the views from it are spectacular, particularly at sunset. The informal Thila restaurant considers itself more family-friendly and has a familiar menu. Kids are quite welcome at the hotel, which has a selection of family activities for the purpose.
The hours between meals are yours to fill as you like. Scuba diving here is top-notch, and a nearby whale shark hotspot is an unforgettable place to dive or snorkel (night snorkelling expeditions are led there as well). All manners of other water-based activities are available from surfing and catamaran sailing to fly fishing. On land, an excellent spa goes above and beyond with its many treatments – the Como Shambhala Sun Soother is a lifesaver after a forgotten sunscreen reapplication.
