Kit Kemp’s signature style characterises the hotel’s 52 guestrooms and suites, which are a lovely blend of old and new. Throughout, subtle homage is paid to the original Bloomsbury Group: an influential collective of early-twentieth-century writers, artists and intellectuals that included the likes of Virginia Woolf and E.M. Forster. Within, the spaces feel at once both contemporary and classic with their extravagant headboards, delightful colour schemes and unexpected (yet enchanting) patterns. In the spirit of Firmdale Hotels, each and every one of the guestrooms is uniquely and lovingly designed. That same spirit extends to the hotel’s other shared spaces, namely the Drawing Room and the Library, both of which feature cosy log-burning French sandstone fireplaces alongside original artworks by Bloomsbury artists like Duncan Grant, Vanessa Bell and Roger Fry.
Oscar Bar & Restaurant is the hotel’s lively eatery, wherein guests can enjoy all meals of the day in a fun, funky space. A robust menu features contemporary European dishes like Dorset Crab Croquettes, Moules Marinière on Sourdough and Hand-Carved Alfred Enderby Smoked Salmon.
