Within its walls, the monastery's chapel remains consecrated to this day, and Sunday mass is held every week. Even the addition of three pools, a fully equipped gym and a spa do little to dispel the magic of this resort.
The spell is maintained throughout. Each room and suite (there are 74) is furnished with all the traditional Tuscan trappings: terracotta floors, exposed wooden beams and delightfully distressed furniture. While this might sound like the ultimate romantic retreat, the hotel caters well for families with babysitting services, family cooking classes, a kids’ club and a pool devoted entirely to children. The whole family can enjoy a dip in the black basalt pool or a match on the tennis courts, while the spa offers options including a hydrotherapy circuit and acupuncture sessions for adults.
Should you somehow tire of gazing sedately over the gorgeous vista with a glass of Chianti in hand, there's plenty to explore in the surrounding countryside: by bicycle, Vespa or on a hot air balloon. You could, however, really up the ante and go with a classic Ferrari.
