Following a much-heralded renovation, the likes of which the property had not seen since its 1911 debut, Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel has – at long last –reopened. Fully facelifted with revitalised guest rooms, an assortment of entirely new accommodations and a host of new amenities (including a sprawling garden in lieu of the former parking lot) it seems that the Carlton Cannes is finally returning to its former glory – the glory that inspired Alfred Hitchcock to film much of his 1955 movie ‘To Catch a Thief’ here.

Thirty minutes by car from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport stands the proud hotel in all its Belle Époque glory. Its grand façade absolutely cannot be missed, in part because the hotel spans an entire beachfront block. Carlton Cannes’ address on the French Riviera’s La Croisette Boulevard is utterly fabulous and is close to an abundance of options for shopping and dining, in addition to being located near two train stations for those guests who wish to explore further afield.

While its exteriors remain timeless and iconic, the interiors are entirely new and marvellously reimagined by designer Tristan Auer and architect Richard Lavelle. Breathtaking guestrooms ooze luxury and are at once both muted and understated while simultaneously being unmistakably grand. Set almost entirely in cream punctuated here and there by accents of dark wood and wicker, these tranquil sanctuaries are virtually absent of superfluous distractions and promise to provide a truly relaxing stay. Some accommodations boast balconies, and it is absolutely worth the upcharge to snag a Sea View room.

Five options for food and drink offer a good amount of variety at mealtimes, and each venue has a distinct ambience from the next. Rüya Restaurant boasts a vibrant and ever-changing dining experience with a seasonal menu that celebrates Anatolian classics inspired by Turkish traditions. Franco-Italian dishes can be enjoyed al fresco at the Carlton Beach Club, while Camelia Tea Lounge offers an elegant indoor respite if you need a break from the heat. Bar°58 is all about indulgence (and has the cocktails and champagne to match), while the intimate and handsome Viñales Cigar Lounge will delight with its collection of whiskeys, cognacs and – of course – cigars.

No relaxing getaway would be complete without a trip to the spa, where world-class treatments promise to leave guests glowing. There’s also a superb fitness centre complete with a pilates zone, boxing ring and Cryotherapy – if you can manage to pull yourself away from the beach, that is.
