Most rooms have a balcony or terrace – snag one with a view overlooking the historic Lichtentaler Allee. The one disappointment is that Nespresso machines don’t come standard, except in suites. You can, at least, request to have the minibar stocked with your preferred libations.
The hotel has a lovely assortment of options for food and drink, with a cigar lounge, Billiard Foyer and a magnificent terrace to boot. Wintergarten Restaurant has enchanting views of the garden and serves cuisine inspired by – and using ingredients from – the Black Forest. By comparison, the dining room of Fritz & Felix is warm and sultry, with plenty of wood and velvet furniture. The cuisine here is inventive and international, and an accompanying bar means you won’t need to go more than a few steps for a postprandial cocktail. Oleander Bar (named for Baron Schlenderhan’s stallion) is a welcoming hideaway beloved by guests and locals alike.
