Locally inspired touches add an attractive sense of place: bathrooms are clad in Calacatta Luccicoso-style marble, and plantation shutters cover floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of either the city or the bay.

The gastronomy offerings at Andaz Shenzhen Bay make the hotel something of a foodie destination unto itself. Mayflower is a contemporary reimagining of a traditional Chinese teahouse: visit for homemade bubble tea, fresh confectionery treats and hot tea brewed at your table by the resident tea master. Fresh seafood takes centre stage at East Room, which serves a vibrant assortment of dishes from Shanghai, Sichuan and Canton in a beautiful Chinoiserie-style space. More seafood and spectacular cuts of meat grilled to perfection in a Pira charcoal oven can be enjoyed at the restaurant West Room, where the in-house butcher will bring an entire steer to your table in order for you to select your desired cut. Less formal versions of East Room and West Room’s dishes are served overlooking the gardens at Veranda, while Bar 1919 is a handsome spot for cocktails, fine wines and live music.

While there’s no spa at Andaz, guests do have access to a 24-hour fitness centre, alongside a 19-metre indoor swimming pool, vitality pool, sauna and steam room.
