If you’re spending a holiday at Al Bustan Palace, you can expect to be treated like royalty. And truly, it’s only fitting – given that the hotel was originally built for a sultan. The regal resort is a landmark in its own right; a mountainside hideaway that feels blissfully removed from the rest of the world. In reality, the beachfront hotel is just ten minutes away from attractions like the National Museum of Oman and the Muttrah Souk; whether you’re staying at the palace for relaxation or exploration, you’re virtually guaranteed to have the best of both worlds on your doorstep.

No expense was spared in the creation of the palace, as is evidenced by the beauty found in every detail. The building’s grand facade is nearly as magnificent as the beauty of its location which places the Al Hajar Mountains on one side and the Sea of Oman on the other. Recent renovations have breathed new life into the hotel’s rooms and suites which feel appropriately lavish with their blend of traditional Omani accents and contemporary design. Streamlined interiors are set in calming neutral shades with plenty of natural materials throughout. Every single one of the accommodations enjoys a private balcony or terrace that overlooks either the gardens, mountains or water – we recommend snagging a room with a sea-facing balcony if you can.

An excellent array of distinctive dining experiences offer plenty of variety at mealtimes; you could easily dine solely at the hotel without getting bored. Beach Pavilion Bar & Grill is a romantic venue set seaside where you’ll find divinely fresh seafood and meat dishes alongside a beachfront Friday brunch. China Mood serves authentic cuisine of the country for which it’s named, highlighting regional dishes as well as elaborately theatrical tea rituals. Al Khiran Kitchen is an all-day affair that overlooks the resort’s pool and the sea beyond, while Turkish cuisine is featured at Turkuaz, which enjoys vistas of the gardens and beachfront. Even closer to the action is the vibrant Blu, a chic poolside spot for light bites and refreshing libations.

Amenities are abundant at the palace, the most extravagant of which is the Al Bustan Palace Spa. Spanning three floors and 33,000 square feet, this Arabian fort-inspired temple to wellness is nothing short of idyllic. Outside, guests can take advantage of yoga classes and tennis courts alongside no fewer than six swimming pools.
