July Roundup: Art and Culture Events to Book Now

Across Europe, July heralds a selection of exciting art, magnificent music and unforgettable moments. From blockbuster exhibitions in London to strudel-filled streets in the Austrian Alps, our editors highlight exciting events to pencil into your calendar this month.

Anselm Kiefer & Van Gogh at the Royal Academy, London [28 June – 26 October]

Set within the Royal Academy’s Wohl Central Hall, this exhibition explores the influence of Vincent Van Gogh on Anselm Kiefer – one of Germany’s most significant artists from the post-war generation. The show places Kiefer’s richly layered works alongside Van Gogh’s legacy, and several new Kiefer pieces lend the exhibition a fresh immediacy. While you’re at the RA, visit the popular Summer Exhibition, a bold and eclectic showcase of contemporary works across all medias. With pieces by both established names and rising stars, many of which are for sale, it’s as much a cultural event as it is a collector’s paradise.

UEFA Women's Euros 2025, Switzerland [2 – 27 July]

Kicking off tomorrow, Switzerland plays host to the 2025 Women’s European Championship. Matches will be staged across eight Swiss cities, from Geneva to Zurich, with group stages leading to knock-out rounds. England return as defending champions, but don’t discount powerhouses such as Germany or Spain. The tournament reflects not just the rising level of play, but also the surge in interest and investment in women’s football across Europe. Be sure to secure a ticket to watch what is sure to be a thrilling battle for the prized UEFA Cup.

Strudelfest, Seefeld, Austria [5 – 6 July]

In July, Seefeld transforms into the ultimate sweet escape as the town’s pedestrian zone celebrates Austria’s most beloved dessert: the strudel. Live folk music and family-friendly activities make Strudelfest a joyous community affair. It’s unpretentious, fun and a delicious detour. With a wide children’s programme taking place next to the Parish Church of Seefeld, it makes for the perfect family day out.

Salzburg Festival, Austria [20 July – 31 August]

The Salzburg Festival is a world-renowned event with an extraordinary programme of opera, classical music and theatre. Set against the baroque backdrop of Salzburg’s old town, this year’s highlights include a new production of Don Giovanni and symphonic works from the Vienna Philharmonic. If you haven’t secured tickets yet, act fast: premium packages and VIP seating for marquee performances are already limited and have begun to sell out.

Held across various locations in Tuscany, it brings a rotating series of open-air concerts and performances to some of the most scenic towns in Europe and range from international choirs and orchestras to soloists. This is how to enjoy five days of harmonic bliss in the Italian countryside.
