XV Beacon
Boston, United States
About the hotel
"A boutique hotel in the heart of the city that promises luxury around every corner, XV Beacon boasts discrete service, elegant guest rooms and a killer steak restaurant."
You may even want to jump for joy because life at this 63-room luxury boutique hotel is the closest thing to perfect. The service is outstanding, the rooms are elegant and comfortable and there’s a gorgeous steak restaurant on the premises, which, although we hate the name (Moo) is very, very nice. Featuring a Roman mosaic dating back to the fourth century and a wine list that’s nearly as impressive, don’t miss the brunch at Moo if you’re here on a Sunday – it’s that good.

The building itself is not new. In fact, the hotel’s website claims that “some say George Washington slept here”. And whether he did or he didn’t, there are modern comforts in abundance now at this turn-of-the-century Beaux-Arts building. We wager you’ll agree that this feels more like a fine “gentlemen’s club” in London than a hotel, and it’s as discreet. Original fixtures and fittings are still in use, polished and primed, like the marble and wrought-iron staircase and the glass cage lifts used to ferry you from the lobby to your room.
Once there, you’ll revel in the comforts of the accommodation, no matter the category (although some are quite small, so be sure to ask). Done up in soft beiges, taupes and browns, each room features a glass-fronted gas fireplace beside which is a plump sofa and chair to recline upon. There are only seven rooms to a floor, so you won’t hear much noise in the corridors or outside for that matter, and you can even open the window if you inadvertently overheat the room. There’s also a work desk, should you need one, and a canopied bed with oodles of pillows, Frette sheets and a warm cashmere throw.
Bathrooms are white-marbled and big. They have whirlpool tubs with a rain shower within, lovely amenities, and a small TV and a heated towel rack.
More often than not you can request the complimentary town car to shuttle you around the immediate Back Bay area for dinner or to a show; just ask in advance.
