Set just off of Wall Street in Manhattan's fabulous Financial District, Gild Hall, A Thompson Hotel offers character and cosiness in a boutique atmosphere just steps from the neighbourhood’s iconic cobblestone streets.
This alluring hotel has a masculine, old-time vibe to it: as if a handsome country retreat somehow found its way into the big city. Guestrooms combine that retro-rugged element with a distinct dose of modern taste and comfort. Clean lines defined the handsome spaces which are done up in earthy, neutral shades complete with plenty of glass and leather. Dark wood accents and patterned rugs underfoot tie the spaces together, while sumptuous furniture and gorgeous light fixtures add a welcome sense of luxury. Marble bathrooms are sleek and stylish, and though the rooms don’t receive an abundance of natural light, the cosy ambience within is such that it isn’t too greatly missed.
Felice Ristorante is the hotel's sophisticated Tuscan eatery. Here, authentic Italian food is served in an alluring dining room that seeks to whisk guests away to the Italian countryside – and succeeds in doing so. The menu is no-nonsense but nonetheless marvellous, and an ample breakfast can be found here in the mornings as well. At dinnertime, you can dine indoors in or out; whichever you choose, you’ll want to head upstairs to La Soffita afterwards. This gorgeous spot is a glamorous, quintessentially Wall Street wine bar that boasts a magnificent assortment of Italian vintages alongside a smashing cocktail list.
Whatever your holiday has in store, be sure to leave plenty of time for exploring. Given that it’s New York City, there’s plenty to see and do within easy walking distance, but if you’d prefer to explore on two wheels you can borrow one of the hotel’s vintage-inspired bicycles. The up-and-coming South Street Seaport is less than a 10-minute walk away, while harbour views and a lovely grand lawn can be found at the nearby Battery Park. A visit to One World Trade Center should also be high on your list, as should the adjacent architectural wonder that is known as The Oculus which is at once both a major transit centre and an upscale shopping destination.
