- 90-minute tour (in English)
- Access to the collection & Architectural tour around the old (Moser building) and new (Chipperfield building, to be opened in autumn 2021) Kunsthaus
The original Kunsthaus was built on Heimplatz in 1910. Since then it has been expanded multiple times: first by Kunsthaus architect Karl Moser in 1925, then in 1958 with the large exhibition gallery, which can be divided up as required.
David Chipperfield’s design for a new building flooded with light lends aesthetically elegant form to the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft’s idea of a museum for the 21st century. When the new extension joins the existing Kunsthaus building in October 2021, it will form both a dynamic ensemble and Switzerland’s largest art museum.
Our ‘From Moser to Chipperfield’ tour includes all the extensions and takes in everything from the existing building to the Chipperfield building. You will learn all about the extension and its star architect`s vision.
The extension is due to be opened in autumn 2021. The project will be distinguished by four core elements: its focus on the art of the 1960s and later, the Emil Bührle Collection, medium-sized temporary exhibitions, and its central entrance hall, a new form of public space in which to experience art.
The New Kunsthaus is a gateway to the world of art, in all its rich and varied forms. It reflects and shapes contemporary trends and builds on the existing strengths that make the Kunsthaus Zürich collection unique. With a series of greatly enhanced facilities, it opens up a vibrant public space in the heart of Zurich.
Use this unique chance to explore these architectural highlights before their opening.
